» Support us virtually during the lockdown!

The current lockdown has caused hundreds of fundraising events all over the UK to be cancelled and thousands of charities have seen donation income drop. Despite this, people all over the country are stepping up and raising funds for charities in new and innovative ways, at a time when we need the support most.

At The Vegan Society, the pandemic has caused us to rethink a lot of our current projects and make sure we are meeting the needs of our beneficiaries. We are developing new materials to help vegans in need, and support people finding themselves out of work due to the lockdown, and those that are on a budget.

If you are feeling inspired by our incredible community, and you would like to support our work, there are a few ways you can get involved. Use your daily exercise to train for a long-distance event later in the year or sign up for a virtual challenge whilst still observing social distancing.

The 2.6 challenge

From 26th April, you can join the #twopointsixchallenge, by setting yourself a goal around the numbers 2.6 and 26. Decide on your challenge, donate or ask people to sponsor you and then nominate others. Here’s a few examples of the kinds of goals you can set yourself:

  • Bake 26 vegan cupcakes
  • Walk around your block 2.6 times 
  • Complete 26 minutes of yoga
  • Run 26km over 2.6 days (only recommended if you are already a runner!)

Other virtual challenges

There are plenty of other virtual challenges that you can register for, including the LEJOG Conqueror challenge, which I’m taking on myself with some of my friends. Get in touch with me on ruby.jones[at]vegansociety[dot]com if you’re keen to do something but need some ideas!

If you’d rather train now and complete a challenge later, we have places in 10ks, half marathons and marathons taking place in September and October. Check out our Run for Vegan Living webpage here. You can also raise funds for us through your own place in any event. 

If you aren’t able to get active at the moment, keep an eye out for messages from us on 5th May, Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving to support charities.
