The Vegan Society recently invited renowned nutrition expert Dr Michael Greger to talk to doctors, nurses and other health professionals on the benefits of a vegan diet for optimum health.
On Saturday 30 April The Vegan Society's Campaigns team hosted Dr Michael Greger - bestselling author and physician - for a free invite only event targeted at health professionals wanting to learn more about how plant-based diets can prevent and treat disease. The event was endorsed for CPD by our partners the British Dietetic Association (BDA)
The night, which took place at Birmingham Council House, was a great success, with over 40 people in attendance including students, dietitians, GPs and health and fitness coaches. Dr Greger was at the end of a long four month tour but still delivered his talk and Q&A session with enthusiasm and his trademark charisma.
Feedback from the night was resoundingly positive as guests indicated they learned much from the talk and Q&A about how plant-based foods can play an important role in aiding their patients and clients. Signed copies of Dr Greger’s recent book How Not to Die sold well to attendees after the talk, demonstrating a sustained interest in plant-based nutrition.
Guests were also pleasantly surprised by the array of tasty vegan nibbles, as well as the wine from our Vegan Trademark holders.
Several staff members and volunteers attended the event, to be able to pass on vital nutrition-based information to our supporters and members. Andy, our Supporter Services Officer, was thoroughly impressed, saying: “It was a really inspiring and professional talk by a very energetic and thorough physician."
