From soaps and toners to deodorants and lip balms, 32 individual products carrying The Vegan Society’s Vegan Trademark have been selected as finalists for the 2021 Free-From Skincare Awards.
The awards, founded in 2011, are a way to acknowledge and celebrate those brands that are working hard to create products that exclude harsh, irritating or non-vegan ingredients that consumers need or want to avoid. Meanwhile, the Vegan Trademark was introduced in 1990 to help businesses showcase their products that are free from both animal-products and animal-testing. Today, over 54,000 products are registered globally, including beauty products, toiletries and household items.
In total 32 products, by 14 different brands, registered with the Vegan Trademark have been recognised this year including Queenie Organic’s Baby Safe Hand and Body Cream nominated under Category 1 for Family Skincare. Category 3, Hair Care, includes Beauty Kitchen’s The Sustainables Intense Moisture Shampoo Bar and HAER’s SUSINUM Luxuriant Hair Oil while Holy Lama Naturals is nominated twice, for both its Ayurvedic Herbal Hair Oil and Eco Warrior Shampoo Bar.
Little Soap Company’s Eco Warrior Hand and Body Bar is up for Best Body Care (Rinse Off) with Bowe Organics’ Brow Oil and Lip rescue balm nominated for Eye Care and Lip Care respectively.
Category 9, Soap Bars, is arguably the toughest with 25 nominees in total including Trademark Holder’s Holy Lama Naturals’ Rainforest Soap, Little Soap Company’s Natural Sweet Orange and The Sustainables Botanic Bliss Organic Vegan Hand & Body Bar by Beauty Kitchen.
The team at Beauty Kitchen are also up for Toners, Waters and Spritzes with their Sensitive Solutions SOS Skin Shield+ alongside Hemptouch Ltd’s Moisturising Bright Essence and Nourish London for its Antioxidant Peptide Mist.
Repeat nominee Little Soap Company, which first registered for a Vegan Trademark in 2017, is also mentioned in Category 16, Problem Skin, thanks to its Unperfumed with Avocado Oil Bar, as is Queenie Organics’ MELIA ROSE SC.
Serum 'Ahiflower' by Asyva Ltd and Luna Organic Skincare’s Beauty NightCap will be competing against each other for Best Face Oil, while BAO Skincare’s NOURISH URSELF BALM is hoping to take home Face Care (Leave On) and Maison Meunier’s Gentle cleansing balm is up for Face Care (Rinse Off). There’s also a category for deodorants in which Salt of the Earth’s Unscented Natural Deodorant Balm and Scence’s Pure Deodorant Balm are both finalists.
Several brands currently going through the trademark application process are also up for awards, including SAKRID, Lily & Rabbit, Maiiro and Skin:Genius.
Ericka Durgahee, Marketing Manager at The Vegan Society, said: “We couldn’t be prouder to see so many of our incredible Vegan Trademark holders announced as finalists at this year’s Free-From Skincare Awards. Every day we get to work closely with these inspiring and hardworking brands that are doing their bit to create products that are not only kinder for animals and the environment but also kinder on our hair, skin and nails too.”
“Even being recognised is a huge achievement for many smaller but very hardworking brands and everyone at The Vegan Society will be cheering on our trademark holders from the side-lines when the winners are revealed next month!”
The winners of the Free-From Skincare Awards will be announced early July. To find out more about the Vegan Trademark head to The Vegan Trademark | The Vegan Society.
