My current research is on the application of computer technology including AI/machine learning to reduce animal exploitation and cruelty. Current projects include AI to support microalgae production, data analysis re the cognitive dissonance of meat eating, social media for vegan transition, transnational study of adoption and barriers, and others related to health and environment.
I am Chair of Human-Centred Technology in the School of Business at the University of Southern Queensland, Australia where I teach courses in information technology. My degrees are in Agriculture, Information Systems, Sociology, Education and Business. I have worked in agriculture, medical laboratories, food processing, and the ICT industry. Despite a family background in farming I have been a vegan/vegetarian for over 40 years. In academia I have 200+ publications and over 40 research grants.
I am seeking research collaborators to explore ideas for technology to help reduce animal harm such as alt-protein production, consumer acceptance/barriers to adoption. I would be keen to hear the ideas of others.
