The Graduate Center & John Jay College of Criminal Justice at CUNY (City University of New York)

I am a doctoral student (year 3, expected graduation May 2027) in Criminal Justice at the CUNY Graduate Center, housed at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City. My primary research interests lie in critical criminology, green criminology, and food crime (with secondary interests in harm reduction and criminal-legal policy). I am attracted to criminological perspectives which use a ‘social harms’ approach and challenge ideas about who or what is categorized as ‘criminal.’

Currently, I am in the data analysis phase of a qualitative content analysis project which uses Reddit data to explore the ‘meat paradox.’ Specifically, I am interested how techniques of neutralization are employed in the justification of animal consumption. I plan to present this research at the 2025 American Society of Criminology (ASC) conference. I believe research and academia are useful tools for animal advocacy, both in scholarly settings like conferences or journals, and in the classroom. For example, in the undergraduate Research Methods course I currently teach, I include a lecture on Critical Research and briefly highlight non-speciesist criminology in the broader discussion of green criminology.

Outside of school/work, I enjoy cooking new vegan recipes and exploring the many incredible vegan restaurants New York City has to offer.
