Grant Summary: We hosted a vegan street fair which was free for all ages where local non vegans had an opportunity to taste a bite-size portions of vegan eats in one place. It was in the middle of the town center where we could reach a lot locals when they are doing their shopping. Vegan meals were prepared by one of the local chefs who serves plant based meals in their restaurants.
Quote from Organiser: Animal agriculture has devastating effect on our environment, both in Botswana and globally; contributing to climate change, deforestation, water pollution and the depletion of natural resources. At our event we managed to serve a total of 8 different dishes to the local of community of Shakawe. Among people that came over to learn about vegan meals were soldiers from the nearby camp, students & the community. The most positive aspect of our project was teaching people and hearing feedback on how people are willing to change their eating habits.”
