Jess is a non-practising lawyer and social entrepreneur. As a lawyer, she specialised in civil litigation and animal protection law. Her clients’ objectives were wide-ranging and included matters such as tackling the illegal puppy trade, investigating and prosecuting animal welfare offences, challenging veterinary negligence and the ‘property’ status of animals through the courts and addressing loopholes in existing animal protection legislation. Her clients included concerned members of the public, sanctuaries, well-known animal protection groups, parliamentary groups and international governments. She also supported vegans in asserting their protected rights in a variety of contexts. Drawing on those professional experiences, Jess recently founded The Vegan Inclusion Co. which works with employers to help them understand their legal obligations and meet the needs of vegans in the workplace. Its goal is to eliminate the common challenges faced by vegans at work, reduce avoidable workplace conflict and staff turnover and ultimately create workplaces where vegans can thrive.
