To mark World Vegan Day, The Vegan Society will be releasing new content throughout the month of November to help support and inspire vegans on a budget.
Our founding members coined the term 'vegan' in 1944. World Vegan Day was created to mark the 50th anniversary of the society, held on 1 November 1994. It is a time to celebrate the vegan community and the steps that were taken towards making veganism mainstream. Whilst usually a time of celebration, it felt more appropriate for us to bring to light the challenges that some of us are facing during these difficult times. We know that this has been a tough year for everyone, and with increasing job losses more and more people are finding themselves on a tight budget, which includes vegans too.
Our Live Vegan for Less campaign initially launched in response to the pandemic and we’ll now be releasing further resources for the second phase of the campaign - to help expand our recipe hub, we’ve been working with the brilliant Sustainable Kitchen to develop a series of videos which include more low-cost recipes, as well as ways of re-purposing nutritious vegan staples to highlight how to get the most out of healthy ingredients, in the most affordable way.
The vegan community has been crucial to the work of the campaign – thanks to your support, we’ve made a handy infographic of some of the most useful budget tips and now, we hope to drive that forward by asking you to send in your favourite budget recipes to continue this support for those in need. Be sure to look through our blog content as well – we’ve provided some new suggestions on how you might want to support vegans in crisis.
We're currently working on establishing a network of support for vegans in financial need, so please be sure to keep an eye on our campaign pages for further news. For informal support, please contact campaigns[at]vegansociety[dot]com
We hope our resources will be of help to both vegans and non-vegans alike and will continue to strengthen the unity of the vegan community.
